Holidays

Over the past week or so I've been getting tons of catalogs in the mail.

These catalogs have gotten me to thinking about the upcoming holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas.  No, not Halloween.  Halloween, is not a holiday in my book.

Thanksgiving and Christmas hold great memories for me.  Of the two, I enjoy Christmas the most.  The reasons for enjoying Christmas have changed over the years.

As a child it was all about Santa and the presents.  As a teen it was the presents.  As a young mother it was about seeing the joy on Daughter's face as she saw Santa and presents.  And now, as an empty-nester, it's the giving and being with family that bring me great pleasure.

I'll share my memories of these holidays as they approach.  For now, though, since I'm in a holiday mood, in the mood to share, in the mood to help you out with your holiday preparations.  I'm going to have a little giveaway.

This giveaway involves food.  Yummy food.  Food prepared fresh and locally.  Food that will arrive in time for your holiday festivities.

First prize will be a 7 pound Greenberg turkey.  Go here to find some great reviews and what a Greenberg turkey is.  This is the only way I will eat turkey.  They taste great and I don't have to cook it!  Yum.

Second prize will be a Janie's Pound Cake, your choice of flavors.  Go here to read about how Janie got started, how she prepares these luscious cakes and the varieties she offers.  Double, yum.

Mr. Greenberg and Miss Janie have no clue as to who I am, other than maybe seeing Husband's or my name on one of the orders, but I do love their products.  These are both local companies and I love supporting our local economy.

Oh, let me be the first to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. My grandmother's chicken and dressing is the absolute best holiday food. We can't have Thanksgiving or Christmas without it. Now that she has passed away, my mom is the only one who fixes it just exactly as she did.

  5. Christmas Eve is my favorite. As a kid this is when we went to my grandmothers house to celebrate with extended family. Now we continue the tradition at my mom's house and in case you don't already know, my mom is a great cook and for me it's all about dessert, so my favorite (and might i add, now my daughter's favorite) is her chess pie! It is what i wait for! I will skip everything for that pie!!!!!

  6. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the cornbread dressing just like my grandmothers.

I can't choose for Christmas... maybe Mom's cream puffs.

  12. My favorite holiday food is my Mother-in-law's pumpkin cheesecake that she now serves at Thanksgiving. I thought nothing would ever compare to a pumpkin pie, but this cheesecake is amazing. I am counting down the days until there is one on the table!

  15. My favorite holiday food (if you consider sweets a food) is my aunt Cindy's homemade caramels. They truly do melt in your mouth! They are the highlight of each year's Christmas gathering at my grandparents, and always a special treat to look forward to after the big Christmas dinner. Or, if you're like me, a little pre-dinner appetizer. :)
