Apples

With the changing of the season, I figured it was time to do a little decorating to celebrate the crispness of fall.

Before I show you what I did, I'd like for you to see what my Crafty Friend did to decorate her house for the season.  Click over to her site right now.  I'll wait.

Isn't she is a-maze-ing!  She made a lot of the crafts herself.  I want to spend a little time inside her head to see how her cogs turn.  I'm in awe of her creativity.

And now, for my attempt at fall decor.

A table runner, a square plate, large wooden acorns, a ceramic pumpkin and fake apples are not quite on par with Crafty Friend.

I do like my fake apples though.  I can leave them out all year without fear of them spoiling.  They are rather realistic looking, many a visitor has mistaken them for the real thing.

Apples are one of my favorite fruit.  I like them in pies, cakes, juice, baked but best of all, fresh and crisp.  Yum.  Apples are the quintessential fruit of fall, in my humble opinion.

There is one other form that I like to have my apples.  Electronic.

You know the kind I'm talking about, Apples created by Mr. Steve Jobs and his minions.

I have four of Mr. Jobs' Apples.  Three in the form of iPods and one in the form of a MacBook.  Love all of them.

I'd like for you to enjoy the electronic apple too.  Click the giveaway tab for all the details.

  2. Hi! This is Seraph Johnston. (Shawn Johnston's wife and Ron and Cesear's daughter-in-law. I found your blog through Lauren's. I hope that's ok.)

I just became a follower of your blog. :) (so definately enter me in your give away contest) I think your fall decorations are CUTE! I really like the table runner.

As for my quintessential fall fruit...I would have to agree with you. Apples! I love apples by themselves, in pie, in cider, etc. Green, red, or yellow...all of them are good. The other thing I think of is pumpkins. But that's a veggie, not a fruit, so I didn't think it would count. :)

  3. I love apples! That is to eat. Crunchy, sweet and sooo good for you. When I was a little girl my grandmother would slice then and fry them in butter, add sugar to make a syrup, and sprinkle with cinnamon. Now I try to stick to all natural. Just today I bought the most delicious apple ever. They are called honey crisp. Yummy! By the way, I love the decor. Where did you find that plate? I have a plate wall that it would look great on. 5. Apples. Honey crisp specifically.

  6. I second Kelsie, the honey crisp apples are the best.

BTW you should pick me because my ipod broke 4 months ago, and I'm trying to show self discipline by not rushing out to buy a new one. This in itself should be a testament to the way I was raised, thus granting me a new ipod.

  7. Apples. When I was a kid we used to go up to Apple Hill every fall in the foothills above Sacramento. Gorgeous. I loved the homemade apple juice and cider. One of my favorite ways to eat apples is in apple butter spread on homemade bread. Soooo yummy!

I'm pretty much on the same page as L. I lost my almost 4 year old Ipod Nano a while back and my docking station is so very lonely. Maybe if I had a new one I'd be motivated to work out and get the last few pregnancy pounds off!

  9. Unlike the rest of the apple lovers mine would have to be lemon alberta peaches that ripen in September. I just canned me quite a few quarts last week. They are SOOOO good.

  11. I wait all year for honeycrisp apples to come into season and then we buy millions of them.

  12. Yes, I'm in agreement, apples are the best!! Honey Crisp, Gala, Fuji and JonaGold...in that order. I especially like to core and slice them and have them with some nice sliced cheese. I like the different textures....yes, I'm a foodie!!
I'm also a follower of Austin City Limits, and have been, but did not know how to comment without going to messages on FB!! Jaime got me fixed up today!
I've been looking at iPods with 'cow eyes' ever since you mentioned putting conference talks on yours to listen to the talks again at your leisure. Jaici got one this weekend for her birthday. I asked her all about it and if you could put canference talks on it...her answer: "Nanny, you can put anything on it you want to!!" How sweet is that???
Oh, is candy corn a fall fruit??

  13. I'm a follower and have to say I am loving the orange color of the ipod. I don't know if a cornucopia counts ..pretty sure it doesn't but that is what I think of this time of year.

  14. Hummm...I guess I'd have to agree with most of the comments above...Apples--Red Delicious is my favorite. ;-)

  15. Apples are great. Anykind. I just love this time of year. Pumpkins, baking, walking outside, spending time with family. I wait for this time all year long. Stephanie Murphy

  17. I think Lauren should just get the iPod as well... or she could get a red one for Christmas of the new variety.

You are right that apples are the flavor of fall. I canned apple sauce a couple of weeks ago, and it was the perfect scent for fall. The apple pie with the girls also smelled like fall. With the leaves starting to fall here it all comes together to make a wonderful symphony of smells.

I think Fujis are the best through. I don't know if I've ever had a honey crisp, but I can get two really yummy Fujis for the price of one honeycrisp. So I'll stick with my Fujis for now.

  25. Well, I didn't have to think twice about this. Pomegranates are my quintessential fall fruit. They start popping up in the grocery stores at the beginning of October and I'm always reminded of being a kid and eating them at lunch just a couple of weeks before Halloween. Although, the powers-that-be did end up banning them from school due to the staining power of the little buggers.

I love the deep red color of pomegranates and I especially love the sweet, tart flavor. I don't spit out the seeds, why bother...just put a huge spoonful in your mouth and you don't notice them. They're oh so good in salads and they're amazingly good for you. What's not to love.

(hey sis...don't throw me into the drawing. just wanted to share my fall fruit)

  96. Dinosaur eggs are the quintessential fall fruit! Until the past week, I had never heard of them... but these things are absolutely delicious and my new favorite fruit!

Dinosaur eggs are a fruit that is a combination of a peach and a plum. They are smooth and speckled on the outside, and oozing with flavor on the inside. I really want to try making a pie out of them this fall.

  97. For me, the quintessential fruit of the fall are peaches. My family would always get fully ripened peaches around this time of the year from somewhere (you don't require details like who and where when you're a kid), and we'd enjoy crates of the things! Delicious! There is an amazing difference between a peach that was picked before its time and one that ripened on the tree...

So that is my FRUIT of the season.
